Chaka Demus and Pliers Postponed Due to Illness
Chaka Demus and Pliers’s European tour — dubbed One Night Stand — has hit a snag, according to booking agent and producer Cabel Stephenson.
The 13-gig tour was slated to have kicked off on July 22 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and climax on August 7 in the UK.
“Chaka Demus is simply not well enough to perform right now. They went to a show in Martinique last week and came through Santo Domingo, and when Chaka returned to Jamaica, he started to have headaches and a high fever. He didn’t want to take any chances, so he went to the doctor who treated him and he was placed on observational rest,” Stephenson, principal of Free People Entertainment, told the Jamaica Observer.
“They just want to apologise to their fans and they are grateful for their understanding, but this was unavoidable. Both Chaka and Pliers were looking forward to this tour as it included a major festival in Holland, and it would have given them the opportunity to promote their latest single, One Night Stand in the UK market. They had interviews lined up for BBC Radio One, Capital Radio, BBC 1xTRA, the Mirror newspaper, and several magazines. The shows will be postponed until a later date when both are at 100 per cent.”
One Night Stand, the single, was released on the Free People Entertainment label on July 13 via iTunes and is being distributed via VPAL.
Chaka Demus and Pliers (Everton Bonner) enjoyed relatively successful solo careers before collaborating in the early 1990s. The duo’s hits include Tease Me, She Don’t Let Nobody and Murder She Wrote.
