AU636 – In Search of Atlantis

It has been said that next to God, Atlantis is the most written about, debated and ridiculed concept on our planet! Nevertheless, this mythical island has fascinated humankind ever since Plato, in the fourth century BC, wrote of its supposed existence.

In this one-off session, a history of this fabled island and the numerous places that have been suggested as its location will be explored, before focussing on the small Greek island that most historians now agree is the prime candidate for this most legendary of places. We will also consider how it fits within the context of the Greek Bronze Age.
