Sweet Content and Merriment
The Hotwells Howlers return to the Tin Church
Thanks mainly to the sterling efforts of a determined group of enthusiasts at the turn of the 20’h century, England has probably the largest collection of traditional folk songs anywhere in the world. Several of these collectors focused their song-collecting activities in this area of the country including Cecil Sharp, the Hammond Brothers (Henry and Robert) and Alfred Williams.
For more than twenty years, The Hotwells Howlers, a local group of musicians and singers, have been researching, learning and performing folk songs collected in the counties of Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset and Gloucestershire. They will present a selection of their songs and tunes. including ones from their most recent CD release, ‘Sweet Content and Merriment’
