Tim Wheeler (Ash) Acoustic & In Conversation

Ash frontman and principal songwriter Tim Wheeler will be joined by BBC 6 Music presenter Chris Hawkins for a special intimate evening of acoustic performances and conversation, exploring more than three decades of songs, stories and life inside one of Britain’s most enduring alternative rock bands.

From writing Girl From Mars while still a teenager to the huge success of Ash’s landmark debut album 1977, Wheeler has been responsible for some of the most instantly recognisable guitar anthems of his generation. Across a career spanning more than 30 years, Ash have delivered classics including Goldfinger, Oh Yeah, Shining Light, Burn Baby Burn and Sometimes, while continuing to release new music and tour around the world.

Ash also share a remarkable connection with Somerset. At Glastonbury Festival in 1997, having already headlined the Other Stage earlier that weekend, they were called upon to headline the legendary Pyramid Stage, becoming the youngest band ever to do so at the time and the first act to headline two stages at the festival in the same year.

The evening comes as Ash celebrate the 30th anniversary of 1977, the platinum-selling UK No.1 album that transformed the Northern Irish trio from teenage outsiders into one of the defining guitar bands of the 1990s. Three decades later, the band remain a formidable creative force, most recently releasing their ninth studio album Ad Astra.

This special Frome appearance offers fans the chance to hear Tim revisit the stories behind the songs, from Ash’s teenage beginnings and extraordinary rise to Glastonbury headline status, through three decades of records and touring, performing acoustic versions of songs from across his career along the way.

Hosting the conversation is Chris Hawkins, one of BBC 6 Music’s most respected broadcasters, whose interview credits include Calvin Harris, The Killers, Florence Welch, Dave Grohl, Björk and Jack White.

This event has a minimum age requirement of 10. Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
