The Cheese and Grain (charity no. 1108074) is an iconic independent venue located in the heart of Frome, Somerset. The venue is a dynamic hub for live music, community events, and the cultural heartbeat of the area.
Since 1998, the Cheese and Grain has brought a historic market hall to life as a cornerstone of the South West’s creative and community scene. We present a packed programme of events from world-class gigs, to bustling markets, laugh-filled comedy nights, inspiring workshops, captivating exhibitions, and activities for all ages.

As well as our main hall and café bar, we operate smaller creative spaces, including our professional recording studio the Bert Jansch Studio, and intimate grass roots sister venue The Tree House.

When is the Box Office open?
Our Box Office is open:
Monday – Saturday: 9am–1pm and 1.30pm–6pm
Evenings: Reopens for ticketed events at advertised doors opening time
Sundays: Open during specific events only

Can you sell tickets for my event?
Yes! We regularly sell tickets for local venues, outdoor festivals and partner events. Our website receives over 20,000 visits per month. Tickets are sold online, by phone, and in person, 7 days a week
What is your refund policy?
Unfortunately, we can only offer refunds when an event is cancelled or postponed. If that happens, we will refund the ticket price only (excluding service/booking fees), and we may require physical tickets returned before issuing a refund
Is there a service charge?
Yes, the cost of our in-house ticketing system means we have to charge a £2.00 service charge per ticket on all bookings. Posting your tickets? Add a £2.50 delivery fee. All service and delivery fees are non-refundable.
What age restrictions do you have?
Unless other advertised evening events at the Cheese and Grain have an age limit of 10+ and anyone under the age of 16 must have a responsible accompanying adult. Babes in arms are not permitted. All events at The Tree House are strictly 18+.
Where do I collect my tickets?
If you’ve chosen to collect your tickets from the box office, they are available for pickup any time the box office is open, both before and during the event. For Tree House events, tickets can be collected at the venue’s door if not picked up from the box office before 3pm on the day of the show.
What are the set times for an event?
We are not able to respond to enquries about set times for events, if set times are being released prior to an event these will be emailed to ticket holders and listed on our website / social media leading up to the event,
Can I bring a bag?
Each guest may bring one small bag that does not exceed A4 size. Bags that are oversized or folded to appear smaller will not be permitted. No on-site storage is available.
Any official merch purchased inside the venue is allowed and does not count toward your bag allowance.
All bags and personal items are subject to search on entry. Please allow extra time for security checks.
Exceptions to the bag size rules can be made for medication or access needs. Please contact olivia@cheeseandgrain.com for further information.
Can I bring liquids into the venue?
No liquids of any kind may be brought in. Empty bottles are allowed and can be refilled inside. Free drinking water is available at the bar.

Why is the venue called the Cheese and Grain?
The name “Cheese and Grain” comes from the building’s original historic use. It was once a market hall where local farmers and traders gathered to buy and sell cheese, grain, and other agricultural goods. The venue retains this connection to Frome’s rich market heritage through its name, celebrating its roots as a hub of community for over 150 years.
Can I park my campervan in your car park overnight?

Can I send you items to be signed by artists?
We are not able to pass on any fan mail, items to be signed or any requests to artists performing at the venue. If you do want to contact a specific artist, we would advise checking their website or social media for contact details.
