An overview of the art and the artists involved in creating art relating to revolutionary moments in history. We shall investigate how artists depicted revolutions and how these images resonate and influence.
How do these images report true events? And how do they often colour reality from certain viewpoints? Does the dividing line between reportage and propaganda become blurred by the artist’s representation of historical events?
The main topics for the short course will be France, Russia and the USA. Artists will include David, Delacroix, Lutze and Rodchenko.
