“Making Computers work for you” is a foundation course intended to help those who struggle with using Personal Computers (PC) or are in need of an introduction to Information Technology, in preparation for returning to work.
This short (5 week) course will ease into the subject by first discussing the components of a Personal Computer in order to overcome any fears learners might have. This will cover the physical components from a user perspective. The course will also cover the basic software that runs on all PCs (operating system, web browser, etc.)
This section will also cover how to use a computer safely. How to recognise and avoid potential hazards posed by using a computer connected to the Internet. There will also be some general advice on how to recognise and manage personal data to ensure compliance with (GDPR) legislation.
The following weeks will gradually explore the functionality and features of two common office applications: Word Processor and Spreadsheet. This will include understanding the sort of problems the applications are designed to solve and how they can work together.
The objective of this course is to help learners gain confidence in using PCs. They will also hopefully gain sufficient understanding of common applications that will help them work smarter instead of harder.
