Frome Children’s Festival at the Cheese and Grain – join the 10th anniversary

This is the 10th anniversary Children’s Festival at the Cheese and Grain, and we want to make this an extra special birthday celebration of childhood.

The event is run by two local charities, Purple Elephant and Young People From, with support from the Cheese and Grain.

Highlights from the last nine festivals have included zip wires across the river, fantastic sounds from Frome Street Bandits, Frome Samba and Rocktapus; amazing theatre from Little Bulb, Noisy Oyster, Jellyfish Theatre and Open Storytellers; activities with The Pod and Shared Earth Learning. We’ve had a giant turtle, music-recording in a professional studio, green screen and special FX filming, a sensory tent, face-painting, den-building, BMX bikes, free make-your-own wrap stall, creative art and crafts areas, model-making workshops from Aardman and of course the Frome Dragon!

This fabulous event is designed, planned, and run together with local young people – so they learn event-organising and publicity skills, run workshops at the event, and deliver something we can all be proud of.

The festival is open to all, and it’s made as accessible as possible so that everyone can attend. We’ve previously included accessible dance from Flamingo Chicks, wheelchair basketball from Nova Sports and Coaching, and theatre performances with signing. We’ve had an adapted harness on the zip wire so everyone can have the chance to fly over the river!  With support workers available during the day, fast access passes for children with additional needs and easy to read signage, the event offers something rarely accessible to the whole community.

So come and see what surprise are in store this year.

The Cheese and Grain café, toilets, baby change facilities are available to help families. Don’t let rain put you off  – many activities can moved indoors to the Cheese and Grain.

There is always plenty of parking spaces.
